Turning discarded bottles into new beginnings
Who Are We?
We are a team of young female students from Erasmus University who believe that business can be a force for empowerment. Clara & Lucy was born from a shared desire to create something meaningful, something that reflects our values, our creativity, and our commitment to supporting women.
Our Story
Clara & Lucy was born from a simple observation: thousands of glass bottles are discarded every year in the Netherlands, while countless women struggle invisibly to rebuild their lives after domestic violence.
Through our studies, volunteering, and work with women’s shelters, we saw how common domestic violence is, how often it goes unseen, and how hard it is for survivors to rebuild their independence. At the same time, we noticed the potential in materials that are discarded every day.
We met through Enactus, a social startup incubator that gave us the environment and support to bring our vision to life. That’s where we connected both passions: upcycling glass and empowering women.
What We Do
Clara & Lucy transforms discarded wine bottles into handcrafted candles, created with the support of women who are rebuilding their lives. Each candle symbolizes a second chance for both the materials and the people involved.
We support women survivors by offering employment opportunities that promote economic independence, providing skill-building workshops that strengthen confidence, partnering with female-led NGOs to extend our impact, and making donations to shelters that help women move forward.
